The Relationship between Family Support and the Level of Self-care Practice of a Urostomy with Bladder Carcinoma

Abstract
|
|
|
Purpose: This study was done to investigate the relationship between family support and self care practice of a urostomy with bladder carcinoma.
Methods: The subjects for this study were 30 urosotomy patients who had been hospitalized in the P university hospital in Busan and were under medical treatment as ambulant patients. The data were collected from July 1 to August 31, 2008, and were analyzed using SPSSIWIN 10.0.
Results: The average of family support for subjects was 66.64, which means that ``family usually supports patients``. The average level of self-care practice was 62.43, which means that they have a tendency to do self-care practice, No statistically meaningful relationship was found between general and urostomy-related characteristics and family support, It turned out that subjects do self-care practice well at the level of age and medical expenses, The difference in the level of self-care practice according to the subjects urostomy-related characteristics was based on information provider. The more supportive family is, the higher the level of a subject`s self-care practice was.
Conclusion: There is a need to develop a rehabilitation program and provide proper education in order to offer a differentiated treatment to the aged who lack understanding and economic support.
